BAFTA 2026: ‘One Battle After Another’ Wins Best Film; India’s ‘Boong’ Makes History

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has concluded the 79th edition of the BAFTA Awards, with the thriller One Battle After Another emerging as the most awarded film of the night, securing six trophies including Best Film and Best Director. This victory cements director Paul Thomas Anderson's status in the award season, following the film’s extensive critical acclaim for its cinematography and editing.

India recorded a historic first at the ceremony as the Manipuri-language debut feature Boong won the award for Best Children’s & Family Film. Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, the film’s success brings regional Indian storytelling from the Northeast to a global audience. For Aspirants, these results are significant for understanding the "Soft Power of Regional Cinema" and the shifting dynamics of "Global Cultural Representation" in major international film festivals. The awards also recognized Robert Aramayo as Leading Actor and public-voted Rising Star, while Hamnet was honored as the Outstanding British Film of the year.
